Job Title : Youth Outreach and Engagement Coordinator

Opened in April 2018, The Atelier is a not-for-profit, member-based organization. We are an inclusive bilingual space (physical and virtual) for collaboration, training, knowledge-sharing, and support for social innovations. Our non-profit organization is the practical branch of an ecosystem located at Saint Paul University in Ottawa alongside the Élisabeth Bruyère School of Social Innovation and the Centre for Research on Inequalities and Social Transformations (CRITS). Our members are stakeholders in the field of social innovation: students, researchers, practitioners, entrepreneurs and local communities.

Job description 

The position will be responsible for outreach and community engagement to develop and strengthen our social innovation ecosystem, with a particular focus on youth. The Youth Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will strengthen relationships and establish new connections with schools and school boards, as well as youth-focused organizations and other organizations working towards social justice and social change. In partnership with the Administrative Coordinator and board members, the Youth Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will promote the Atelier’s programs and services within the Ottawa-Gatineau community through workshops and presentations, as well as other activities to expand our reach and enhance our impact. This position is partly funded by Young Canada Works.

We are seeking a versatile, organized person with strong interpersonal skills, comfortable engaging and connecting with a diversity of individuals in different contexts. The ideal candidate will have great adaptability, flexibility and creativity. They will be capable of making decisions collaboratively and also taking initiative and working autonomously to implement specific tasks.

Responsabilities 

Specifically, this position will:

– Organize events and activities on themes related to social innovation, in particular activities that actively engage youth;

– Develop curriculum-based workshops and conferences and facilitate workshops in local-area high schools and colleges;

– Promote the activities and services of the Atelier to the Ottawa-Gatineau community through presentations and tabling at relevant community and public events;

– Increase the active participation and engagement of students and youth in the Atelier’s activities and democratic governance.

In addition to this specific mandate, the position will contribute to the cultivation and success of the Atelier’s overall activities. This includes:

– Space management and room rentals;

– Communicating with members and partners, as well as contributing to external communication tasks (ex. Social media posts or newsletters);

– Supporting and contributing to the organization of Atelier events;

– Working in partnership with the other organizations within our social innovation ecosystem: the Élisabeth Bruyère School of Social Innovation and the Research Centre on Innovations and Social Transformations. 

Eligibility

– You are 30 years old or younger at the start of the employment period;

– You are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;

– You are legally entitled to work in Canada.

Skills and experience required

– A strong command of French and English (spoken and written); the successful candidate will be required to work in both languages;

– Confident public speaker and effective communicator;

– Experience in event planning and/or public outreach activities;

– Experience in community development, social innovation, social justice, and/or the social and solidarity economy;

– Comfortable operating within an organization working with various audiences and topics (e.g., affordable housing, engaged art-based projects, etc.);

– Ability to work as a team, with diverse groups and create an inclusive environment;

– Comfortable using a variety of computer applications: MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Drive, Canva. 

Relevant assets

– Experience in group facilitation and organizing with both youth and adults;

– Demonstrated commitment to social, economic and environmental justice and knowledge of the Ottawa-Gatineau area and context;

– Organizing, activism and/or volunteer work with social movements.

Working conditions

– Part-time position, 20 hours per week, flexible schedule;

– One-year contract with the possibility of renewal;

– Hourly wage of $25, including 15 days of vacation, and two weeks of paid leave during the December holiday period;

– Must be available to work occasionally in the evening or on weekends;

– Work location: Onsite at the Atelier (Ottawa, ON)

– Anticipated start date: Tuesday September 5th, 2023
