The CRITIC is a collective at the crossroads of research and practice. It documents initiatives that promote the scaling-up of the commons, notably through public-commons partnerships (PCP), with a perspective of social transformation. It draws inspiration from both local and international practices, and develops links with players involved in the commons milieu and within municipal institutions.
On the one hand, the CRITIC aims to contribute to the advancement of critical knowledge on approaches to the commons, and on the other, to propose tools that will serve citizens, collective organizations and municipal institutions to facilitate the emergence and operationalization of PCPs.
CRITIC’s 16 members are involved in a wide range of organizations and educational institutions, both in Quebec and abroad. It aims both to produce critical knowledge on the institutionalization of the commons, and to act as a catalyst for knowledge, tools and best practices on public-commons partnerships claimed and implemented by a plurality of actors in the public space.
This project was made possible by a Development Knowledge grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) from 2022 to 2025, obtained by Jonathan Durand Folco and co-researcher Dan Furukawa Marques.
